Avoid these common mistakes when buying real estate in Tulum Mexico.

Real estate in Tulum Mexico is experiencing unprecedented boom. While it is easy to get excited about returns, future potential, and beautiful scenery of this small Caribbean paradise, we see these THREE common problems that may be a deterrent for serious buyers:

1. Generalism

If you search for real estate properties in Tulum, you will find websites with an aggregate of all possible information and beautiful pictures. It’s good to have many possible options presented at once, but even for someone who has spent 4 years in Tulum, it takes 10 minutes to go over just one listing and evaluate it’s true worth. If you don’t have insider knowledge, trying to determine true value is futile.  Therefore, you end up with an overwhelming stream of information that doesn’t even come close to painting an accurate picture for you.

2. Quality

Tulum, like any other place that experiences an explosion of development, failed to avoid a common problem: poor quality. Contractors, by trying to satisfy rapidly growing demand, often sacrifice quality for speed. You can see a beautiful render of a place, and even visit the construction site of your future home. However, until you move in, you won’t know much about the intricate details that were sacrificed.

3. No one will honestly listen to your real and intimate needs

You have your own dream, own picture of the perfect home (rental space, business, land, etc.) Maybe just a rough idea of what it should be. You have questions like, ‘What will I do with my home when I am not there?’ or ‘how far is the beach?’ Or even ‘where can I find important supplies?’ When you speak to homebuilding companies, everyone peddles their own projects, limiting your interest only to their developments. When building homes that are partially practical and partially someone else’s dream, you need to exercise your imagination, attempting to transport yourself psychologically into the future owner’s needs and interpreting them into physical objects. Real homes are NOT a compilation of database listings. Long story short: currently, there is zero personalization in the marketplace.

When looking for a new home, make sure you avoid these common pitfalls.

The truth is that even one of these mistakes might cause you a lot of problems and make your new home or office space a colossal waste of money - either immediately or somewhere down the line.
